Fisher Price Toy Collaboration
ZOO - ON - A - ROPE
A collection of interactive modular, toys that are STACKABLE, ATTACHABLE, AND ROLLABLE. Zoo-on-a-Rope encourages children to learn color and animal association, patterns, and stacking. All contribute to their brain development and fine motor skills.
The toy shifted from being interlocking like a puzzle to being modular with interchangeable pieces. The rope shifted to wheels and one leading rope on the main toy piece. The top face of the toys shifted from flat to a dome for increased grab-ability. The final design had pieces that varied in 3 different heights and had either a flat bottom or a bottom with wheels.
Production Tools and Processes:
Sketchbook
Fusion 360
CNC
Electric Sander
Hand Sanding
Dry Brush Painting
Decal Painting
After researching developmental stages and milestones of infants and toddlers, I made 10 toy concepts with a variety of mobility and learning features. Zoo-on-a-Rope is the concept I narrowed it down to (shown on the left). This idea changed quite a bit after the iteration process.
Production started with 3D modeling the toy on Fusion 360. This was necessary as the method of cutting was the CNC machine. The main bodies were cut on the CNC in 2-4 layers depending on the height of the individual pieces and they get glued together to be the final height. The pieces with wheels get glued together with the wheels and axels in between the final bottom pieces with slots.
